Round table discussion “Models of Good Practices for the Integration of Roma” in Vidin

On July 24th, NGO Organization Drom and the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee organized a regional round table, entitled: “Models of good practices for the integration of Roma”, which is part of a European project “Empowerment of Roma for anti-discrimination and integration: Acceleration of the capacity at the regional level in the areas of anti-discriminatory mechanisms for distribution of good practices in the integration sphere (READI) and co-financed by Program “Rights, equality and citizenship of the European Union (2014-2020). Good practices were presented by the “Ambassadors of good practice”. They spoke about successful strategies for solution of most frequently encountered issues of Roma in the areas of education, access to housing, health, and access to employment. About 80 representatives of Municipalities in the Vidin District, local authority officials, school authorities, health mediators, experts and others took part in the meeting. Former mayor of Kavarna, Mr. Tzonko Tzonkov, who first legalized Roma houses in the neighborhood of the town of Kavarna, spoke about the model he established and the win-win situation. Ms. Panayotova, chairperson of NGO Organization Drom, and Dr. Krassimir Kanev, chairman of the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee, welcomed the audience and summarized the discussions at the end of the event.
